Meghan Markle and Prince Harry make surprise political decision in latest career move
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be getting more involved in US politics, with the couple reportedly joining forces with ‘Hollywood power players’ to provide information to voters
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly making waves in the political world, with the couple reportedly teaming up with “Hollywood power players” to prepare voters for a “deepfake onslaught”.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are using their Archewell Foundation to launch a campaign to protect voters against election misinformation, according to reports. The campaign will coincide with the 2024 US presidential election, which will take place on November 5.
The campaign has been described as a “bipartisan coalition with support from Hollywood power players and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation”. The team will be working to “prepare US voters for a possible deepfake onslaught during the election year”
According to a report in Axios, experts are predicting both “malicious state actors and domestic political operatives” will use deepfake techniques to manipulate voters. Google, Meta and OpenAI are pledging to combat deepfake content, while two adverts have been produced by Jesse Dylan, Bob Dylan’s son, to raise awareness of the issue.
It’s believed the Archewell Foundation is “helping brainstorm new content.” This isn’t the first time Meghan and Harry have been involved in politics.
During the last US election campaign, Meghan joined forces with feminist Gloria Steinem as they called on Americans to vote. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Gloria said: “She came home to vote.
“The first thing we did, and why she came to see me, was we sat at the dining room table where I am right now and we cold-called voters.” Harry and Meghan also released a video during the 2020 election urging voters to reject misinformation.
Harry encouraged people to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity,” while Meghan said that election was “the most important election of our lifetime”. The couple also teamed up with Barack Obama’s PR expert, Miranda Barbot.
Miranda was hired by the Sussexes to “overhaul their image”. A source said at the time: “There are shades of the Clintons or even Kennedys. It wouldn’t be a huge shock now if Meghan went into politics.”
