Matthew McConaughey celebrates son Levi’s 16th birthday with heartwarming post: ‘Enjoy your journey’
It’s a sweet sixteenth!
Matthew McConaughey has celebrated his son Levi turning 16 by imparting some wisdom in a heartwarming post on his special day.
Taking to Instagram Sunday, the Oscar-winning actor, 54, posted a montage of photos of him and his wife, Camila Alves, along with the birthday boy.
“Alright Levi, coming on that age, buddy. About to be out on your own,” the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor said in a voiceover.
“Me and your mom hope we’ve done as good of a job as we can. You’re not gonna really have us as a safety net out there in the wonderful, wild world forever.”
McConaughey, who has been married to Alves since 2012, went on to share some fatherly advice to the pair’s eldest child.
“Just go out, enjoy. Be aware of your surroundings. Be yourself. Know when to say yes, know when to say no, know when to say maybe,” he said. “See the good in everybody else, but know that not everyone else is always paying attention.”
“Take your time. Enjoy the journey,” the “Interstellar” actor added, captioning the sweet post with the concluding phrase.
McConaughey and Alves welcomed Levi on July 7, 2008. The couple also have two younger kids: daughter Vida, 14, and son Livingston, 11.
On Levi’s 15th birthday, the actor introduced his son to the world of social media.
“Happy birthday Levi Alves McConaughey,” his father said in a joint Instagram post with Alves last year.
“Can you believe it?” she said, turning to her husband. “Fifteen years young,” he answered, adding “Hey, buddy, your mom is a little nervous today. One of the gifts we’re giving you, yes, we are allowing you today to join the social media universe.”
The “Gentlemen” star revealed the couple had been discussing when they would give their blessing for him to get an account since he was 12 years old.
“All his friends have had it for a long time,” Alves noted. “We’ve been holding up.”
McConaughey added, “He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share.
“Levi, enjoy the adventure, enjoying telling your story, expressing yourself and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there.”
