Sam Ryder has recalled the time he ‘yanked’ Taylor Swift’s earring out when met the star for the first time at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday, host Martin Lewis asked the Eurovision singer, 34, about the unfortunate incident.

Sam met the global superstar at the awards ceremony in Dusseldorf, Germany, in 2022 – when she won both Best Artist and Best Pop.

But what could have been a sweet moment turned awkward, when Sam’s luscious long locks got caught in Taylor’s hair as he went in for a hug, ‘yanking’ her earring out and sending it crashing to the floor.

‘You could hear it drop on the floor,’ he said of the earring, which he described as having some ‘heft to it’.

‘What’s going on with you and Tay Tay?’ Money saving expert Martin asked Sam during his GMB appearance.

‘I yanked her earring out,’ Sam replied. ‘Not by choice, my hair did it. Yeah it happened.’

The camera cut to a clip of the exact moment earring-gate occurred, as Sam went in for a hug. Taylor was seen laughing as it happened.

Co-host Susanna Reid asked: ‘How much was that earring worth? It wasn’t Claire’s accessories was it?’

Sam replied: ‘No, no it was not. It had some heft to it.’

‘Did she react, did she notice?’ Martin then probed, to which Sam said: ‘She kind of… I feel like Taylor probably notices every single thing, do you know what I mean?

‘And even in that arena where everyone was going absolutely bonkers when she won that award – which she knew she was going to win because she’s Taylor Swift, she’s Tay Tay – you could hear it drop on the floor.’

The hosts then asked Sam if there were any plans for him to collaborate with the Fearless hitmaker, who is currently on her Eras tour in the UK.

‘I have no idea,’ he said. ‘I just feel happy that if that was our moment in this life then I am happy with that.

‘I am open to all the infinite opportunities the universe may present itself.’

Sam’s appearance on GMB comes after his role at Radio 2 host Scott Mills’ wedding to his longtime partner Sam Vaughan was revealed.

Scott, 51, tied the knot with producer Sam, 35, in a stunning Mediterranean Villa in Barcelona on Saturday.

The joyous occasion was a celeb-filled affair, as the pair were joined by radio stars Rylan, Zoe Ball, Vick Hope and Jordan North.

Scott’s former co-host and friend Chris, 37, was another guest at the big day, however he actually officiated the wedding with everyone referring to him as ‘the vicar’, Zoe revealed as she returned to her own Radio 2 show on Monday morning.
